Sage's Tale

Again I turned to herbs to help Sage’s immune system and this time I decided to try Global Herbs Defenze Capsules. Being a capsule this supplement is a little difficult to give to cats, so I smear butter over it to make it slippy then push it down his throat once a day. I then syringe a little water to wash it down for him.

To help control the bacteria in his mouth I started to use Pet Dent Oral Gel and alternate it with Pet Dent Toothpaste. Both of these products contain Chlorhexadine which I have found very effective in helping to control his mouth problem. I put it on my finger and rub it over his top teeth and gums once daily, (he won’t let me put it on his lower jaw or brush his teeth).

At first Sage’s mouth still flared but I syringe fed him and put the toothpaste or gel on twice a day. Within two days of a flare up he was eating on his own again. I put this down to the Defenze Capsules strengthening his immune system, helping him fight the infection and the Pet Dent dental care for reducing the plaque and bacteria in his mouth.

The Global Herb Defenze supplement is brilliant for my Sage. It keeps his appetite up,  he has put on lots of weight and although he is still snotty it is not in such copious amounts. It is now March 2010 and he hasn’t been to the vets for treatment since I started this regime in Sept 2009. He doesn’t get actual cat flu now thank heavens, he’s just a bit snotty but otherwise very bright and alert. Neither his mouth nor cat flu has stopped him eating for months, he eats happily and well now all of the time. His little nose gets dry and cracked sometimes, so I rub vaseline on it till it heals, but otherwise he is doing great.

I gave the Defenze Capsules every day for the first 3 months, but now I give it only a few days a week to keep his Immune system working well or if he’s more snotty than usual I give it every day till he settles again to prevent him coming down with flu. He certainly does not seem to need them all the time now and I always put Pet Dent toothpaste or gel in his mouth every day.

So finally, it seems I have found the solution to Sage’s cat flu and gingivitis/stomatitis problems and as you can see from his pictures he now finally, leads a good quality, pretty normal happy life. It does my heart the power of good to see him racing in and out of the house like a wild thing gone mad. My regret is that if only I knew sooner, what I know now!

Sage will always have his problems but at least now at 9 years of age I have finally learnt how to keep them under control. A big thank you to Global Herbs, Pet Dent and God for giving our Sage his life back.
